It is believed to occur in a minority of patients and may occur in patients over the age of 40 years. It is not known if this condition is linked with the use of phosphodiesterase inhibitors, other medications, surgery or any other medical condition. In a recent survey of over one million men, about two-thirds said they had bought a prescription drug for erectile dysfunction. But there was a surprising truth in what many believed to be a generic alternative: the Viagra.
That's the story of a man who decided to buy his first generic Viagra — the little blue pill that treats erectile dysfunction (ED).
"We've just been talking to the pharmacist about it for a month and a half, and he said that they were going to start selling it as the brand name for the pills, but then we would get an email saying, 'Let's just use our brand name and not do any research,' and they would have to change their minds and it would be the generic," he toldThe Associated Press.
The man who got his first generic Viagra was John, a 29-year-old man from Southern California who had been trying to get his wife a new one. He said he had been on the pill for about a year, and now he was experiencing "difficulty in getting to work," according toAssociated Press
He was prescribed a generic version of Viagra, which is similar to the popular little blue pill that has been around for more than a decade. And while he is a relatively new guy, he said he had been taking it for about a year and a half.
"I had the ED thing, and I wasn't experiencing it at the time, so I went and bought it. The thing was, I thought, 'OK, here's what I want to know, and it's working.' And I went and bought it. And it worked," he said.
The man then set up shop in New York City and bought his first generic Viagra for about $3.50, the same amount that had been on the market for years. He said the pharmacist who sent the generic Viagra was impressed and that the man was "trying something different."
The guy, who asked that his medical name and height be given, said: "I'm not talking about the name and the shape of the penis, which is the size of a fag, I'm not talking about the size of a pencil, I'm talking about the shape of the penis. And I just thought that's going to be very interesting," he said.
The man said he was curious about the way he was being treated, but had little interest in buying new prescriptions for ED. He said he would be more interested in finding out about the treatment before it became a problem.
When asked how he was being treated, he said: "It's been a little bit of a stressful experience, and I mean that in a bad way. I was doing a little bit of a job and it was stressful. I had to go to the emergency room at the hospital and see what was wrong, and I couldn't get to the doctors because the doctor didn't know what to do and he didn't know how to help me."
After a month and a half of trying on brand-name Viagra, the man had to change his name and his height to protect his privacy. He said the pharmacist who sent the generic Viagra was impressed and that he was "trying something different."
Now, he said, the man is "very happy" with what he's been putting into his body and his ability to use the drug.
"I'm just glad I was able to get my medication back on track. It's just a nice little thing that they put out," he said.

inboxOur email inboxWe're all about the safety of our customers.Dear Dr. Knight:I have been prescribed the Viagra® as a treatment for prostate cancer. I am a 52-year-old woman, in her mid-30s, and had been taking the Viagra® since I was 15. I was told it could reduce the chances of getting prostate cancer in older men, but I have not had a follow-up to determine that. I also have an interesting story. It happened to me, but I have never taken it. I am a 64-year-old woman with the longest life expectancy of any individual I know. I was diagnosed with a prostatic hypertrophy (PH) and was prescribed the Viagra®. I am a 52-year-old woman with the longest life expectancy of any individual I know. I am a 62-year-old woman with the longest life expectancy of any individual I know. I am a 63-year-old woman with the longest life expectancy of any individual I know.
It is a combination of factors. I have had no treatment for a recurrence of the condition since my last treatment. It is a combination of factors, not just the Viagra®. I have had no treatment for prostate cancer since I started taking the Viagra® and the other treatments.
